As soon as the first privately-owned newspaper in Turkmenistan Rysgal started operating successfully, a new editor-in-chief was appointed. Apparently the authorities feared to leave such important business unattended.

Travel ban lifted postmortem
Mukhammetmyrat Achilov, the son of Turkmen journalist Gurbansoltan Achilova, committed suicide after failing to secure a permit to exit the country from Turkmenistans State Migration Service. A month after Mukhammetmyrats death his relatives received an official letter from the Migration Service, allowing M. Achilov to leave Turkmenistan.

Turkmen journalists and their relatives are facing unprecedented pressure by the special services
Gurbansoltan Achilova has been employed as a correspondent of Radio Azatlyk since August 2007. Since then, she and her family members have been regularly subjected to severe pressure by the Turkmen special services. Recently Gurbansoltan lost her son.
